Earl Ross

This fine ballad ListenI Pity The Fool isn’t the Bobby Bland classic blues of course but is still a mighty fine song. I enjoy Earl’s lovely phrasing and his fine sense of dynamics, so strong and compelling, but as for his history I’m afraid I’ve drawn a complete blank. But this rare 45 seems to have been his only recording. The other side has admirers on the Northern soul scene but can’t hold a candle to this side.

The only other Hell’s recording I’m aware of is the excellent offering from Rose Hargrove. Her initial recording was in Kentucky – I wonder if Hell’s came that state as well.

Anybody know any more about this artist or his label?
