Always - FORDOM 101

William McGee

If you mention the Fordom label to any soul fan the only disc they’ll think about will be Ernie & The Top Notes funk anthem “Dap Walk”. But this tiny New Orleans concern produced other, better discs than that by Raymond Winnfield and this one by William McGee. ListenAlways is a classic Big Easy deep soul ballad full of that typically laid back sound. Singers from there never seemed to be as intense as those from other Southern towns but I can’t get enough of the music from that part of the world. The arpeggio guitar work is preferable to the rather unfocused solo in the middle, but the horns are great and I Iove that cheesy organ!
