SALUDA 5105Willis Johnson

This gloom laden song is the only 45 I know by the obscure Willis Johnson – but what a winner it is. You gotta love his passionate desperation and the dead slow horn laden accompaniment. This was provided by JM’s Funk Factory who were a Washington DC band who provide their own side of the 45 with their self titled workout. That these tracks were cut in DC is evident by the name of the then veteran record lady Lilian Claiborne as co-producer.

Saluda was a short lived label from Columbia SC but nothing else I’ve heard this source can hold a candle to ListenTell Me.
