Little Alice
Why Oh Why is a lovely example of the time when doo wop was beginning to give way to soul as the main form of black American music. Little Alice gives a fine vocal performance over a song that has classic doo wop chord changes, especially in the bridge and the second half when she cuts loose. Great arrangement by the always excellent Ray Shanklin. Novelty / R & B top side, an answer song to Lonnie Russ’ “My Wife Can’t Cook” (4 J 501) is well worth a listen as well.
