Not often you find a girl group 45 recommended on this site but this fairly obscure one-off has many strong points. Secret Affair has a lovely meandering sax, some fine conga playing to name two - but the best parts are the chord changes and the excellent committed lead vocal. The mechanical percussion borrowed from Frederick Knight’s “I’ve Been Lonely For So Long” is well down in the mix (thankfully). The production from maestro Dave Crawford is spot on – and as is more obvious in the mid paced flip “Bobby” the rhythm was cut in Philly with the horns in Memphis.
