George E Johnson Jr had a couple of releases on the Philly based CRS label. The one that the funk fans know is his second one – “Penn Walk” / “Wake Me Up” – but the really rare first release on the label is far better I think. The flip is an uptempo number “Just Because You’re You” which might interest the dancers but the top side That's The Kind Of Man I Am is a really fine ballad. After a longish rap intro George gets into the song, showing plenty of gusto and a very good tone. Great lo fi little label production.
