New York artist Calvin Lee Williams is often confused with the fine New Orleans singer Calvin Lee, but his only 45 Cross My Heart is worthy of considerable attention in it's own right. Right from the start the combination of organ, guitar and horn section sets up a strong backdrop and you know that the song is going to be a good one. And Williams confirms this as his carefully enunciated singing takes you through the song. You've got to love those falsetto whoops too. A good example of classic deep soul.
