James Bounty
Session guitarist Bobby Eli has spoken (see Note) of discovering James Bounty singing to an Otis Redding record outside a music store in Philly, and listening to this disc you can hear why Bounty might want to do that. His gruff throaty delivery really comes into it’s own on the waltz time ballad “Life Will Begin Again” far more directly than on his other, much more celebrated but actually rather routine uptempo numbers for Mickey Kapp’s Compass label where he gets drowned in the beat. But just this one performance makes you want to hear more deep soul from this guy, but sadly his other 45 for Reddog is poor.
